Jeweling is infamous for destroying backs, necks, and eyes. However, this is almost entirely preventable with a proper ergonomic setup.
The Bench Height is Everything
Unlike a standard desk, a jeweler's bench must be high. The bench pin should be roughly at your sternum (chest) level. This forces you to bring the work up to your eyes, rather than bending your back and neck down to the work.
Seating Solutions
An adjustable, ergonomic chair is a must. Your feet should rest flat on the floor or on a dedicated footrest, taking pressure off your lower spine.
Lighting Cannot Be Ignored
To prevent eye strain, you need powerful, shadowless task lighting directed exactly at the bench pin. We recommend dual-arm LED lamps that can bathe the work area in bright daylight (circa 5000K-6000K) without generating heat.
